The 30 nominees for the 2022 Ballon d’Or have been officially announced.

Given the fact they came close to a record-breaking quadruple in 2021/22, Liverpool are represented pretty well in the latest list chosen by the folks over at France Football.

Jurgen Klopp’s side received six nominations in total. Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez, Fabinho and Virgil van Dijk are all in the running to win the individual award.

But there’s one name missing from the list of nominees that some Liverpool fans cannot get their heads around – and that’s Alisson Becker.

The Brazil international is at least one of the 10 goalkeepers in with a chance of winning the 2022 Yashin Trophy, but he won’t be competing for the Ballon d’Or this time around.

Real Madrid‘s Thibaut Courtois and AC Milan‘s Mike Maignan were the only two shot-stoppers to be nominated for the main award.

So, should Alisson have made it three at the expense of someone like Diaz or Dusan Vlahovic for example?

Well, judging by one fan’s video containing some of the Liverpool goalkeeper’s highlights from 2021/22, he certainly should have.

Alisson really was outrageously good in 2021/22. He was probably Liverpool’s second-best player throughout the course of the campaign, behind only Salah.

In his 53 appearances across all competitions last season, the former AS Roma goalkeeper kept 27 clean sheets and conceded only 41 goals in total.

Alisson won the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Glove Award and was named in the division’s PFA Team of the Year for his heroic efforts between the sticks.

Oh and he also saved Mason Mount’s penalty in the FA Cup final shootout, which paved the way for Liverpool to secure victory at Wembley Stadium.

While the Ballon d’Or judges don’t appreciate Alisson’s brilliance quite enough, Klopp himself is acutely aware of just how good his number one is.

After Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea in February, which Alisson didn’t even play in, the German manager said: “If you know how a football team works, you know that goalkeepers are very often separate so I don’t see them all the time.

“I see them in decisive moments and the development is absolutely top class but Alisson Becker is the best goalkeeper in the world for me.

“There are top goalies out there but this keeper (Alisson) is insane.”
