Liverpool have agreed personal terms with Newcastle United star Alexander Isak.
According to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the 25-year-old is prepared to sign a five-year contract with the Reds if they agree a fee with Newcastle.
The Magpies have maintained the stance that Isak is not for sale in this transfer window.
But they have been put in a tricky situation, as the striker has communicated his desire to leave St James’ Park this summer.
Having agreed personal terms with the Swedish footballer, Liverpool are now set to begin official talks with the Tyneside club soon.
Arne Slot’s side are aware that Newcastle are demanding £150 million for their prized asset, but believe they can seal a transfer for around £120m.
Isak has emerged as one of the best centre-forwards on the planet in recent years.
Since joining Newcastle for a fee around £63 million, he has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances in all competitions.
The Sweden international is highly rated for his intelligent movement, technical ability and finishing.
But given Isak’s injury record, spending a record fee to sign him could be risky for Liverpool.
The Reds have already spent £269m on new signings, including Florian Wirtz, Armin Pecsi, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike.
Although they can afford to sign Isak, they do not look in desperate need of another striker, having signed Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
