Liverpool target Matheus Nunes could be a ‘really exciting’ addition at Anfield if he is to join the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has informed GiveMeSport.
Jurgen Klopp is in the market for new players, having already completed a move to bring in forward Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven this month.
The Daily Mail has reported that Liverpool is interested in taking Nunes to Anfield this summer, despite the 24-year-old only arriving at Molineux from Sporting Lisbon in the last year.
Reds boss Klopp is keen to restructure their midfield next term and has a keen admiration for the Portugal international, who has put in some stellar displays for Wolves, even with the impending threat of a relegation scrap looming large for the Old Gold.
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham is being courted as another top target. However, it is said that he will only consider a move to Merseyside in the event they secure Champions League qualification, which just now looks unlikely as Liverpool are ten points off rivals Manchester United who occupy fourth position in the Premier League.
Daily Express journalist Taylor has said that Nunes would be a ‘really exciting capture’ for Liverpool, however; also wonders what impact the potential transfer could have on a deal for England international Bellingham.
Taylor told GMS: “It’s clear he would actually be in a really exciting capture for them. He’d cost a little bit less than Enzo Fernandez, but, at the same time, you do sort of question whether his arrival would affect any move for Bellingham, given that Bellingham is probably going to cost upwards of £100 million.”
Liverpool has an ageing midfield, with Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, James Milner, Fabinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all moving nearer to the twilight zone of their careers.
That hasn’t come just yet for most of them, though the Reds have struggled to replicate the intensity they showed in a gruelling 2021/22 campaign, meaning they could do with some fresh impetus in the engine room to aid their hopes of regularly winning silverware.

Without new additions, the thought of challenging for major honours could fade amongst the Kop faithful. On the other hand, acquiring two classy midfielders, such as Nunes and Bellingham, in the summer will undoubtedly improve their chances of being amongst the elite sides again if both transfers were to materialise fully.
The process of bringing in Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham will come with its fair share of complications; nevertheless, capturing Wolves ace Nunes – who signed for the Molineux club for £40m according to The Guardian – would be the ideal start to begin breeding a new-look squad at Anfield in 2023/24.
