Fan footage of Wolves’ controversial disallowed goal towards the end of Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Liverpool has been posted on social media.
Supporters and pundits alike were left puzzled by the decision to cancel Toti Gomes’ 83rd-minute goal, which would have put the visitors 3-2 ahead at Anfield.
The assistant referee had his flag up for offside against Matheus Nunes, who took the original corner and regained the ball on the left after Hwang Hee-chan nudged it back to the wing.
It later transpired that the video assistant referee (VAR) – former Premier League ref, Mike Dean – had no camera angle available to provide any evidence to overturn the decision.
As a result, referee Andrew Madley was left with no choice but to stick with his assistant’s initial offside call.
Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui was incensed by the decision and went into Madley’s room with captain Ruben Neves after the match.
The Spanish coach, who briefly managed Real Madrid in 2018, said the offside didn’t ‘exist’ after watching back tactical footage of the incident.
“We have seen it, the offside doesn’t exist, I’m sorry. It’s impossible,” Lopetegui was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
“Someone has told him it’s offside, but we’ve seen the images, it doesn’t exist.
“The decision is wrong. I make mistakes every day, and sometimes they do too. Today we have the help of VAR, and it is a pity, because I’m sorry, it’s not offside.”
Even Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp conceded: “I’m not sure about their third goal. We have one picture where it may look offside, but I can understand why they are angry about it. We don’t want the VAR to just have one angle.”
But does new fan-recorded footage confirm that Wolves’ late goal should have stood?

After watching the footage which shows the angle that VAR apparently didn’t have access to, football fans are now even more baffled as to why Toti’s goal was disallowed.
The decision may have cost Wolves, who currently sit 19th in the Premier League table, a place in the FA Cup fourth round.
The two top-flight clubs will go head-to-head in a replay later this month, with the fixture expected to take place on either January 17 or 18.
Wolves and Liverpool are also set to play each other in the Premier League on February 4.
