Alisson Becker – 6.5

OneFootball Videos

Came in for some flak last week. He could do nothing for the opening goal, and was superb in denying Zaha shortly thereafter in a one on one. Had little to do, in another frustration filled game.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 6.5

A rare poor outing versus Fulham, he looked to redeem himself immediately. He was eager in trying to unleash those ahead, and probably should have had at least one first half assist. Urgency engulfed later on.

Andy Robertson – 6.0

Always the willing runner, but lacked end product through the first half. Struggled to make any real impact despite some real effort. Rightly taken off for a better crossing option.

Subbed 63 mins

Virgil Van Dijk – 6.5

Was kind of out of sorts last week, but tonight he showed importance in having to cover the whole back line at times. Not until Joe Gomez entered the fray did the backline become assured. Not playing to his best, but the surrounding cast is forever changing at the moment.

Nat Phillips – 4.5

A surprise starter. In for the injured Joel Matip, with Ibrahima Konate also injured. Perhaps the opportunity he’s been waiting for, but he showed he simply cannot defend a high line, and was at fault for the goal. He became a constant target for Zaha, and despite winning some headers, he showed he isn’t able to play in this side. A tough game for the defender.

Fabinho – 6.0

He started very well, as the tempo built. But like much of the team, predictable patterns become easier for Palace to navigate through. Seemed more and more worried about Phillips behind him, and his game became more about protection of him than his own. The game descended into a mass game of urgency and he screened as best he could in a weird final period.

James Milner – 5.5

Earned a start, and knows the left hand role. He started brightly, but faded quickly. Nearly scored early on, but his gusto dropped away as the game settled down.

Subbed 63 mins

Harvey Elliott – 7.5

A great show of confidence to start ahead of the skipper, and he was the bright spot for the reds for the most part. Always wanted the ball and showed desire, but the final ball is still a work in progress.

Man of the Match

Mohamed Salah – 6.5

The Egyptian King would have loved seeing his new strike partner in the lineup, but the game did not go to that script. Was constantly outnumbered and struggled to make his game impact. A close range header and a snap shot were his first half limitations and he continued to get crowded out in the second half. Could have won the game late on with a rasping half volley.

Darwin Nunez – 3.0

Chosen ahead of Bobby, and rightly so. That rhetoric drifted away, as he was harried and outnumbered by experienced defenders. A few miss hit shots through the first half, before an act of utter stupidity saw him sent off, and rightly so.

He must learn, and learn quickly.

Red Card – 57 mins

Luis Diaz – 7.0

A tough first game, and he struggled up until the equalizer. He exploded after being on the fringes for so long, and showed what he can do. Another frustrating evening.

Subs;

Joe Gomez – 6.5 (on 78)

If he starts, Liverpool don’t concede that goal. An amazing choice not to start this wonderful defender. Apparently not fit for 90 mins, but looked tidy and dependable when he came on. His pace allowed more risk.

Jordan Henderson – 6.0 (on 63)

Showed urgency and intent.

Kostas Tsimikas – 5.5 (63)

Tried to make deliveries count, however the target was already in the changing room.

Fabio Carvalho – 6.0 (on 63)

Came on a showed youthful enthusiasm, and nearly grabbed a wonderful winner late on.

The Manager;

Jurgen Klopp – 6.0

Something isn’t at all right, not Old Trafford standards, but this next evolution of his team his hitting far too many speed bumps. The injuries (and now a suspension) are a huge concern before the next game.

Not starting Joe Gomez was perhaps the weirdest decision imaginable, especially given how fit, fast and assured Joe looked from 63 minutes.

Answers are required very quickly, as 5 points from 9 are now an absolute must for Jurgen Klopp.
