Everton earned the bragging rights over their arch-rivals Liverpool following a determined 2-0 victory at Anfield.
An early goal from Katja Snoeijs settled the nerves for the visitors and, despite a heavy amount of pressure from Liverpool, Karen Holmgaard’s strike doubled Everton’s lead in the second half.
The result means that The Toffees remain unbeaten at Anfield, with Liverpool failing to find the net each time they have hosted their arch rivals.
The visitors drew first blood and took an unexpected lead when Snoeijs found the bottom corner int the seventh minute to silence the home supporters.
However, Liverpool responded accordingly and were inches away from an equaliser when Fuka Nagano’s cross found the head of Sophie Haug, but the effort was caught by a composed Courtney Brosnan in the Everton net.
The hosts continued to threaten the Everton defence, with Ceri Holland and Haug being in the centre of many attacks, however they struggled to find the cutting edge they needed.
Gemma Bonner was next to get Liverpool supports off their seats when her headed effort was glanced narrowly past the post.
Brosnan pulled out a fantastic athletic save to deny Taylor Hinds five minutes before the interval, helping her side hold onto their one-goal advantage.
Olivia Smith was an example for The Reds at the start of the second half. In the opening minutes her curled effort whisked over the crossbar before she was then denied by Brosnan in a one-on-one challenge.
Despite Liverpool having a flurry of chances, they failed to find the back of the net. Separate strikes from Marie Höbinger and Smith looked destined for the back of the net, but Brosnan came to Everton’s rescue once again.
Everton doubled their lead in the 69th minute, when Karen Holmgaard fired the ball into the bottom corner in front of the Everton faithful.
The visitors were reduced to 10 players when Sara Holmgaard was shown a a second yellow card after hacking down Smith on the right-hand side.
Smith still proved to be a danger even in the closing stages of the game. Another curled effort went close, but it was not enough to reduce the deficit.
After a professional and clinical performance, Everton did enough to seal three points Infront of 15,376 fans at Anfield.
