According to RAC1, it has come to light that Lionel Messi’s camp has made it clear that there has been no contact from FC Barcelona regarding his involvement in the reopening ceremony of the new Camp Nou.
While the club reportedly hopes to have the Argentine legend attend the event, Messi’s entourage insists that no proposal or invitation has been received.
This clarification comes in response to earlier reports suggesting that Barça wanted to honour Messi at the official inauguration of the revamped stadium, once construction is complete and the roof installation is finalised.
The club reportedly viewed the tribute as a central part of the event, with sources claiming the board was fully committed to celebrating Messi’s legacy in front of a packed Camp Nou.

Despite Messi’s team denying any contact, Barcelona remain hopeful. Internally, the club is said to be planning a grand reopening ceremony that would include a tribute to their greatest-ever player.
The idea was to have Messi, who left the club in 2021, return to the pitch not as a player but as a guest of honour, offering closure to fans who never got a proper farewell moment at Camp Nou.
However, as things stand, Messi has not been approached and is unaware of any official plans involving him.
Sources close to the player say no discussions have taken place, and no formal request has been made by the club.
While Barcelona’s intention to honour Messi is clear, the lack of communication could hinder the club’s wish of seeing the World Cup winner headline the opening ceremony.
For now, any possible reunion remains just a hopeful idea, not an active plan.
