PSG and Argentina playmaker Lionel Messi (35) gave a wide-ranging interview with Argentine sports daily Olé. During the interview, Messi was asked about his relationship with Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappé, who was on the opposing team during the 2022 World Cup final. He also opened up on his return to PSG’s training groud following his triumph in Qatar. Messi was welcomed with a guard of honour by his teammates and the league leaders’ staff after his exploits with Argentina. The forward had been granted ten days off after leading the Albiceleste to their third title, and was handed a trophy engraved with a golden star by PSG sporting advisor Luís Campos to celebrate their latest World Cup winner.

Messi’s unease and shyness were not feigned. “I don’t like those things. Although I obviously appreciate it and it was something very nice. I kind of feel embarrassed to be the center of attention and to be treated that way.” The Argentine nevertheless stated it was nice to feel the recognition of his teammates and of PSG’s staff.
