Two of the finest players ever to play the game, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho thrilled Barcelona fans for years with their dazzling array of talents.
Before Messi cemented his legacy at Camp Nou by becoming the club’s greatest ever goalscorer during an incredible 16-year spell at Barca, it was Brazilian playmaker Ronaldinho who ranked as the jewel in the Blaugrana’s crown.
When the two men linked up on the pitch for Barcelona, a moment of magic was never far away. Developing a fluent understanding with each other from an early stage, it was Ronaldinho who provided the assist for Messi’s first ever goal for the club against Albacete in 2005.
Regrettably, their time as colleagues was relatively short-lived, as Ronaldinho departed for AC Milan in July 2008, but the pair still achieved great success while playing together as part of a magnificent Barcelona side.
As a result, any time that the two men are pictured together, feelings of nostalgia spring up for millions of fans around the world.
The two South Americans, who have remained great friends since their time as colleagues in Spain, joined up again recently to film a commercial for Pepsi.
Messi has starred in a number of adverts for the soft drinks giant over the years, including one for Pepsi Max in 2020 that included Mo Salah, Raheem Sterling and Paul Pogba.
A few months later, he wowed fans across the globe with an impressive trick shot using a pair of Pepsi cans.
Stacking both cans on top of each other, Messi volleyed a tennis ball at the bottom can, leaving the top can to fall to the ground and balance perfectly upright in the process.
You can check out the Argentine captain’s pinpoint accuracy on that occasion here.
Now, almost 14 years after they last shared the pitch for Barcelona, Messi and Ronaldo are back together. This time, though, it is as opponents in a game of ‘Pepsi Pong’.
As you might expect from the two legends, both manage to sink their shots in sublime fashion. Messi probably shades the battle for style points, however, knocking three balls into cups from his single effort, after which Ronaldinho is shown applauding.
You can check out the commercial for yourself below.
Ronaldinho clearly enjoyed the experience too.
“Making magic with Leo Messi and my new favourite game,” he , while sharing a clip of the new campaign.
