2024 is a special year for FC Barcelona as the Catalan club commemorated its 125th anniversary last night. This event was marked by an intricate ceremony in Barcelona, that was attended by several legends of the club.
Some months ago, when this event was still in its planning stage, the Blaugranes pondered inviting one of the biggest legends in the history of their club, Lionel Messi.
For some reason, the Argentine was unable to attend this gala last night, but as Mundo Deportivo has reported, his beloved club was still in his mind as he left a message on his social media celebrating the greatness of the Blaugrana club on this special occasion.
Messi had a simple but powerful ten-word message: “Happy 125th Anniversary to the best club in the world.” 💙❤️
Along with this message, Messi also posted a blue and a maroon heart, representing his love for Barcelona, and also attached several images showing the glorious time he spent at the Catalan club.

The affection was not one-sided, as Joan Laporta also remembered the Argentine superstar during his speech at the gala last night. Despite his absence, Laporta did not hesitate to recognize him as ‘the most decisive player in the history of Barça.’
Despite the club’s rich history, it’s hard to dispute Joan Laporta’s assessment. Lionel Messi has undeniably been one of the most influential players in the club’s history, having spent nearly his entire professional career there.

During this period, Messi made 778 official appearances for the Catalan side, scoring an astounding 672 goals and providing 303 assists. He also secured 4 UEFA Champions League titles with the Blaugranes and claimed La Liga title an impressive 10 times.
Although his departure from the club did not happen in the best of circumstances, there is still no doubt that both Barcelona and Messi still love one another, and this love was once again on display on the club’s 125th anniversary.
