Lionel Messi’s reaction to a journalist getting emotional while interviewing him has gone viral on social media.

The Paris Saint-Germain and Argentina forward is regarded by many football fans and pundits around the world as the greatest player of all time.

There are few footballers in history who have provided as much joy to so many people as Messi, who is unquestionably one of the most talented people ever to play the sport.

Now 35, Messi is slowly coming towards the end of his illustrious career and it’ll be a bitterly sad day when he decides to hang up his boots.

There doesn’t appear to be any possibility of Messi retiring in the near future.

Right now, he’s totally focused on the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina to World Cup glory would, for him, surpass all of his other achievements in the sport - including his seven Ballon d’Or wins.

Journalist gets emotional while interviewing Lionel Messi

Argentine journalist Pablo Giralt had the opportunity to interview Messi this week, and he couldn’t help but get emotional while taking to arguably the greatest footballer in history.

In a touching moment that has gone viral on Twitter, Giralt says to Messi: “I've dreamed of doing this all my life, but I never thought I would be lucky enough to be able to accompany you with my story, with my love. I thank you with all my heart.”

Messi looked a little awkward while receiving such heartfelt admiration and initially didn’t know how to react.

He attempted to laugh it off, leaning back on the sofa he was sitting on, but eventually leant forward and put his hand on the journalist.

What did Messi say after the journalist got emotional?

Per @AlbicelesteTalk, Messi said: “Thank you very much. I am excited to be able to reach people like this. There are many people in Argentina or in the world in general who always support me, admire me, from football and from what I am as a person... I am grateful for the affection I’m receiving.”
