Lionel Messi has publicly criticised the Barcelona board over the sacking of former coach Ernesto Valverde.

For almost the very first time in his career, the record-breaking Blaugrana forward has gone rogue and called out the club – and specifically sporting director Eric Abidal – over their handling of the ex-coach’s firing.

Abidal revealed in an interview with Sport earlier this week that Barcelona had looked to fire Valverde after their Clasico draw on December 18 and that even winning the Supercopa de Espana wouldn’t have kept him in a job.

The Frenchman also claimed that: “Many players weren’t satisfied or working a lot and there was also an internal communication problem. The relationship between the coach and the dressing room has always been good but there are things as an ex-player that I could smell. I told the club what I thought and we reached a decision.”

That has fully irked Messi, who was well-known to have a good relationship with Valverde, with the Argentine taking to Instagram to make his displeasure felt.

It was reported by Marca on Monday that two Barcelona ‘heavyweights’ had to be dragged apart in training last week after they fell out during a session.

It seems that all is not well at Camp Nou.
