Messi’s deal at current club PSG is up at the end of the current campaign, meaning he is eligible to agree a pre-contract with interested suitors in January.

In making the move, the Argentina international would become the highest-paid player in MLS history.

The Miami franchise, who are co-owned by David Beckham, are also looking into the possibility of signing two of Messi’s close friends and former team-mates in a bit to sweeten the deal.

Those players are namely Luis Suárez, who is currently back in his native Uruguay, and Cesc Fàbregas, who is in Italy’s Serie B with Como.

Inter Miami officials, including Beckham and his fellow co-owner Jorge Mas, along with manager Phil Neville have spoken in the past publicly about their desire to recruit the 35-year-old.

It is also reported that Beckham’s influence is playing an important part in the deal as he has been in direct contact with PSG’s owners through his work as an ambassador for Qatar, while he also has a close personal relationship with Messi through their Adidas sponsorship.
