We may have to whisper it but, it looks like Lionel Messi is back.

The Argentine star is already showing ominous signs of returning to his sparkling best with some of his early season performances at PSG.

Having bid farewell to his beloved Barcelona under lamentable circumstances, Messi struggled to adjust to his new surroundings in the French capital, bagging just 11 goals in all competitions across the course of the previous season.

However, he looks to have shaken the monkey from his back this campaign and has already dropped many a jaw after only a few days.

His superb overhead kick vs Clermont lead to the opposition fans cheering his name while others were left debating whether or not he meant what would be a genius assist for Neymar.

He was also bang at the races in pre-season and the bigs wigs in the halls of power at PSG will be hoping he can be the spark that finally ignites a triumphant continental conquest.

If he can recreate anything that resembles some of his peak Barcelona form then we could be in for a real treat as the season progresses.

Looking back on those heady days in Catalonia, it can be difficult to aptly sum up just how supreme Messi was.

So, instead of us getting ourselves tongue-tied trying to sum up a man who just isn’t for summing, we thought we would instead watch some footage of him making elite defenders look rather silly.

In the below footage, which has blown up online, Messi really is taking the mick as he makes opposition defenders crash right into each other.

Brilliant – he makes it look so easy as well.

We could well see more of the same in the upcoming season as Messi’s partnership with close friend Neymar looks to be as hot as ever.

The pair have the potential to do some real damage across the board and, if ever there was a time for PSG to end their painful Champions League hoodoo, it’s this season.

With Messi fit and firing again, anything is possible. Who knows, maybe even an eighth Ballon d’Or title could be on the cards.
