Lionel Messi says Barcelona are gunning for all three major trophies this season.

Sunday’s 2-0 win over Villarreal leaves Ernesto Valverde’s side a point clear of Sevilla at the top of LaLiga and on Wednesday, they will be hoping to book their spot in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey when they take on Cultural Leonesa at Camp Nou.

Last week’s victory away at PSV also meant the Blaugrana sealed top spot in their Champions League group with a game to spare, and Messi sees no reason why they can’t win their first treble since 2015.

“Whenever we start a new season, I always try to improve on an individual level as well as collectively,” said the Argentine superstar, speaking at the launch of digital fan club Otro.

“I want to us win everything. That’s what is expected at a club like Barça. For that reason the objective is to win every competition we’re in and my motivation is that I improve every year.”

Messi is expected to miss out on the Ballon d’Or when the award is handed out in Paris on Monday, but the 31-year-old says he’s more than happy to put team success before individual awards.

“I don’t like losing and every game we play the objective is to win,” he added.

“The team is above every individual. The biggest successes at the biggest sides are earned by working hard as a group, a good group. We’re all important.”
