The 35-year-old has now equalled Dani Alves’ record. The Brazilian won 43 trophies across stints at Bahia, Sevilla, Juventus, PSG and his national team.

Messi was picking up his third title since joining Les Parisiens in 2021.

The Argentine international broke the deadlock, finishing off terrific work by Kylian Mbappe.

Messi had an excellent game and created a massive chance for Mbappe early. He scooped the ball over the Strasbourg backline, but the Frenchman could not apply the finish.

Later in the game, Mbappe missed another glorious chance after another fine Messi run and pass.

The former Barcelona man collected the ball in the centre before driving at the Strasbourg backline and crossing for Mbappe, who fired wide.

However, a point was all PSG needed to seal their record 11th Ligue 1 title.

It was likely one of Messi’s last games for the club after two years in Paris. It is unclear where his next destination will be.

Messi has an offer from former club Barcelona and Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal. He is keen on returning to Spain but knows Barca’s financial issues problems could prevent it from happening.

He leaves France with his head held high. He netted 16 goals and 16 assists (28 big chances created) this season to help his side capture the title.

After struggling last season – six goals and 14 assists – he adapted to produce better numbers this term.

Following the title-winning goal, he is now the top scorer in the history of the top five European leagues (496).

The Rosario-born forward can extend the record with one game left and equal or break the record for the most assists in a Ligue 1 campaign (20).
