There’s a reason Lionel Messi has no less than seven Ballon d’Or titles to his name.

The Argentine superstar raised the proverbial bar year on year as fans watched on in awe and opponents scuttled away with their tails between their legs.

In truth, we probably ran out of superlatives to accurately describe Messi a few years ago.

During those electric days at Barcelona, Messi would score a heady 670 goals for the club, while notching up 302 assists in the process.

Of course, his first year at PSG was largely underwhelming, but that can never replace the thunderous weight of achievement in the years that preceded his Parisian adventure.

Across the length and breadth of Europe, there aren’t many elite footballers who haven’t been taught a lesson at one point or another by Messi.

In fact, footage recently went viral on Twitter of players and managers alike remonstrating on just how difficult a task it is to stop Messi.

So, as his playing years begin to wind to a close, it’s important that we appreciate every moment we have with the man who helped to change the face of football.

Fortunately, when Messi does make the seismic decision to hang up his boots, we will have a mountain of memories to call upon to soften the blow of losing the great man.

The internet is awash with highlights of Messi redefining what we though we meant when we called it ‘the beautiful game’ and you can imagine that will be the case for a long time to come.

From his best goals, to saucy dribbles to compilations of his finest free-kicks, we will never be short of Messi content to hoover up.

One particular skill that Messi has perfected during his time at the top of the game is the chip finish and, unsurprisingly, it has now been given the compilation treatment.

In the video titled: ‘Lionel Messi: The art of the chip’, we are treated to two plus minutes of pure poetry with the Argentine making one of the most difficult skill in the game look like a bit of a doddle.

It’s actually frightening how easy he makes that look.

Keep in mind that those are elite level goalkeepers that he’s making to look quite silly.

Messi will now be hoping for a return to that kind of form as he eyes up his second season in the French capital.
