There’s one name that we all knew would be first on Argentina’s team sheet as they took on France in Sunday’s World Cup final.
That’s Lionel Messi of course, and even before he’d kicked a ball in the game he had broken a record.
With 26 appearances under his belt, the Argentine wizard has surpassed the previous record of 25, held by Germany’s Lothar Matthäus.
Below Matthäus in the list is compatriot Miroslav Klose (24), Italy’s Paolo Maldini (23) and of course Cristiano Ronaldo with 22.
