Jamie Carragher firmly believes Cristiano Ronaldo has added to the problems at Manchester United

Speaking to The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t The Mirror], Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo has only increased the problems for Manchester United.

The Portuguese completed a return to Old Trafford after 12 years earlier this summer and has been brilliant. Since making his first start against Newcastle United post the international break in September, Ronaldo has scored five goals in five starts for the club.

However, the 36-year-old was always going to bring this quality. The forward is a serial goal-scorer and has proved that over the years with Real Madrid and Juventus, where he has honed his game as an out-and-out predator in the box.

While he has scored important goals for the Red Devils this season, Jamie Carragher has claimed that the Portuguese has only added to the individual brilliance in the team rather than bringing about cohesiveness in the squad. Carragher told The Telegraph (h/t The Express):

“They remain a team of individuals rather than a team. Cristiano Ronaldo has added to that rather than fixed it. That’s why, despite a brilliant squad, they are not yet at the level of the other three. Dropping five points in their last two home games highlighted lingering inconsistency.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer possesses brilliant players like Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Jadon Sancho, and several others. These players can turn the tables on their day but the Norwegian boss is yet to integrate them as a team.

However, the Old Trafford outfit has brought in three players, including Ronaldo, who could start most games for the club. Thus, it will take some time to bed them into the system and work together as a team.

Several players share chemistry with each other already, and Solskjaer might incorporate them together over the course of the season if given the time.

As for Ronaldo, he has shown time and again that he can lead teams to trophies all by himself at times and thus, it’s best to save our judgement on his impact at the club at least until the end of the season.
