Lingard hoping to bring ‘winning mentality’ to West Ham as he looks to add ‘consistency’ to his game | OneFootball

On-loan midfielder Jesse Lingard has revealed that he is hoping to bring a ‘winning mentality’ to current club West Ham United, as he also looks to become a more consistent performer for the team.

The 28-year-old had endured a frustrating last 18 months or so after losing his place for both club and country, with the first-half of the current campaign seeing him feature just three times for parent club Manchester United in all competitions.

After securing a loan move away from the club at the end of January, the creative midfielder has looked reborn and handed an already impressive West Ham side an extra lift.

The England international has already netted three goals in just four Premier League appearances for the Hammers, helping to take the club into an unlikely top four spot heading into the final third of the season.

Although he has been excellent for David Moyes’ side thus far, he admitted that his aim now is to produce quality performances on a more consistent basis.

“I’m obviously really enjoying my football and I’ve settled in really well and the lads have taken to me really well,” Lingard told the West Ham website.

“I’ve come here to play football week-in, week-out and that’s what I’m doing. Playing football makes me happy and when we win and play like we did on Sunday [when I scored in a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur], nothing can top that.

“It’s about doing it consistently and that’s maybe where I’ve struggled before, doing it consistently in games, but I can feel now I’m coming to an age where I can keep that consistency and focus and concentration coming into games and playing games week-in, week-out which I haven’t been used to.”

After spending the last few seasons in the Red Devils’ first-team, Lingard has already tasted success, having been a crucial part of the club’s FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League triumphs in recent years and he is hoping to pass on that ‘winning mentality’ to his new teammates.

“I’ve been around teams who have won trophies at Manchester United so I know about the winning mentality and what effect that can have on the team, so I’m just trying to bring my experience and do well for the team and see how high we can get in the table,” the Hammers’ number 11 said.

“We’re very confident at the moment and we’re going into every game fully focused on getting the three points, no matter how we do it.”

The Hammers next task is to try and curtail Manchester City’s sensational 19-game winning run at the weekend, although Lingard hinted that his side will play their usual ‘front foot’ style.

“We’re a team that likes to go forward and play on the front foot,” he said. “We like to press as well, so we can kind of bring that energy when we’re pressing and force the opponents into making mistakes.”
