Lineker says Leicester can save season and escape relegation - but how?

A Leicester City legend who once helped save the club from obscurity and administration still holds slight optimism for his old team. Former England striker Gary Lineker is from Leicester and played for the side back in the day. He continues to possess contacts at the King Power club and is therefore someone worth listening to regarding LCFC.

Just like the rest of us in the Blue Army, he is somewhat disillusioned with the current state of play on Filbert Way. And that sentiment applies to the squad, form, and the way the organisation has been run. Players, management and ownership have felt the wrath of Lineker's opinions of late.

So how can the east Midlands outfit actually rescue their season according to the 64-year-old? Is it likely or plausible that City can indeed avoid relegation at this delicate and slightly desperate point in the campaign? And will Lineker at least get his New Year recruitment wish granted by chairman Aiyawatt 'Top' Srivaddhanaprabha and director of football Jon Rudkin?

Gary Lineker somehow has faith that Leicester City might perhaps secure Premier League safety - but they must do something significant to give themselves a chance

As I mentioned just now, Lineker is a bit of an LCFC oracle. He doesn't work at or for the club anymore. Yet he can often be seen in the stadium watching matches and cheering on City.

Lineker also speaks on the club whilst on television, radio and podcasts. While he doesn't attend as much as some laudable supporters, he's generally as plugged-in (if not more) than most of us in my opinion. This all adds credence to his views.

So what does the ex-Fox suggest Leicester do this month in order to ensure their top flight status? That's right, you've guessed it: sign some decent players. Specifically, Lineker implored Foxes bosses to 'recruit a good defender':

"It's a shame, but if Leicester sign a defender in the window, a good one, I still think they'll stay up - I hope! Another defeat, that's five in a row. Despite an improvement in their overall play recently, they just leak too many goals."
