Stade Pierre Mauroy, home of Ligue 1 outfit LOSC Lille, will host this year’s Coupe de France final, according to AFP.
The showpiece of France’s cup competition is usually held at the Stade de France, but another venue had to be chosen due to works in and around the stadium ahead of the Olympic Games, which are set to start on July 26th of this year.
As well as the home of Les Dogues, other stadiums such as Olympique Lyonnais’ Groupama Stadium and the Matmut Atlantique, home of Ligue 2 outfit Girondins de Bordeaux, were considered. However, it was Lille’s elimination at the hands of Lyon in the round of 16 (1-2) that tipped the balance in the favour of their stadium being chosen.
This will be the first time in French football history that the final will take place outside of the Parisian region since its inception in 1917; the Stade de France has hosted every final since 1998.
