Paulo Fonseca has confirmed that Angel Gomes (23) will travel with Lille OSC for their first-ever European quarter-final tomorrow evening.
The English midfielder had been a doubt for both legs against Aston Villa after picking up a hamstring injury last month during training which looked as if it would rule him out for at least three weeks.
However, Fonseca in a press conference this evening revealed that Gomes would be available for the team, “Angel Gomes is with us. He is here to help the team.”
It will prove to be a timely recovery for Gomes as he looks to now be part of the squad that will travel to Birmingham, providing a significant boost to Les Dogues as they face a tricky tie ahead of them against the competition’s favourites.
Lille enter this game on a good run of form having gone undefeated for their last seven Ligue 1 games with their last loss coming on the 25th of February to Toulouse FC. Still, despite their form, they will be acutely aware of the problem facing them when France’s fourth-place side meets England’s fifth.
