Tonight, Lille OSC will end a hectic week which has seen the club travel to AS Monaco and Atlético de Madrid with a trip to their arch-rivals RC Lens for the Derby du Nord. Manager Bruno Génésio had warned that he would “go to Madrid with our reserves.”
It was a comment that was taken as tongue-in-cheek but proved to be true as he benched Bafodé Diakité, Angel Gomes, Edon Zhegrova, and Jonathan David for the Champions League outing. The core players were given a rest while youngsters like Ousmane Touré, Ngal’ayel Mukau, and Matias Fernandez-Pardo were provided with a start.
All the usual starters came on during the match to help Lille record a famous 3-1 victory over Atlético, but they will likely be played from the start tonight. Génésio will also rely on André Gomes who is illegible for the Champions League due to signing a contract with the club after the registration period.
