Only one year after his arrival on a free transfer from Toulouse FC, Branco van den Boomen (28) could leave Ajax Amsterdam this summer, as new head coach Francesco Farioli doesn’t count on the Dutch midfielder, who has been proposed to Lille OSC.
One of Toulouse FC’s standout players during their fairytale of going from Ligue 2 to catching European football by winning the Coupe de France, Branco van den Boomen seized the opportunity to come back to his formative club last summer, for whom he had never played professionally. Arriving on a free transfer, the Dutch midfielder signed a four-year deal with Ajax Amsterdam, but nothing went as planned, whether it was individually or collectively. With a nightmarish first half of the season, Ajax failed to fight for the title and couldn’t do better than fifth place in the standings with three different coaches taking up the role throughout the season. Sadly, van den Boomen failed to make an impression with any of them, competing in just 29 games across all competitions, netting three goals and delivering one assist. With former OGC Nice head coach Francesco Farioli recently named as Ajax’s new head coach, the Dutch midfielder is set to look out for a new challenge this summer.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, Ajax Amsterdam has proposed their midfielder to Lille, who are evaluating this opportunity. However, the French outlet added that Les Dogues could face fierce competition for the former Toulouse midfielder, who is attracting interest from France and Spain.
