With Leny Yoro’s (18) transfer to Manchester United now official, Lille OSC are working on strengthening their defence and have added Nayef Aguerd’s (28) name to their shortlist as they would be keen to sign West Ham’s centre back on loan, according to L’Equipe.
Lille is undergoing quite a revolution at every level this summer. While Bruno Genésio has been named as the club’s new manager following Paulo Fonseca’s departure to AC Milan, Les Dogues have to deal with multiple departures this summer. In addition to Yusuf Yazici (27) who left on a free transfer following his contract expiration, the North side decided to cash in on Yoro before the end of his current deal next summer. Transferred for a whopping €70M fee, bonus included, the centre back has now left a gap in Lille’s back line. If Thomas Meunier (32) has joined the club on a free transfer, the Belgian international is mostly used as a left-back and would be used as a backup rather than a guaranteed starter. Hence, Lille are considering the opportunity of bringing Aguerd back to Ligue 1 and reuniting him with his former manager at Stade Rennais during the 2021-2022 season. The Morocco international is, however, not the only profile in Les Dogues’ shortlist.
According to a report by L’Equipe, Lille are keeping an eye on Aguerd, as West Ham look to offload the former Rennes defender. The Irons offered him and Kurt Zouma (29) to OGC Nice in the hope of signing Jean-Clair Todibo (24). However, the North side is also considering a move for Olympique de Marseille’s Samuel Gigot, whose contract is set to expire next summer and will not be retained by his club.
