LOSC Lille head coach has confirmed that his side made use of footage from last weekend’s Madrid Derby in preparations for their showdown with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real.
Lille and Real Madrid, of course, locked horns on the continent on Wednesday night.
When all was said and done at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, a shock result was forthcoming, the evening’s hosts emerging on the right side of a 1-0 scoreline.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his side’s historic victory, the subject of Lille’s preparations to face the Spanish champions was, in turn, put to manager Bruno Génésio.
Les Dogues did a superb job of holding Real’s star-studded frontline at bay over the course of the 90 minutes, restricting Los Blancos to only a few clear-cut goalscoring opportunities.
And Génésio has since revealed that he and his coaching staff utilised ‘a lot’ of footage from last weekend’s Madrid Derby, studying the performance of Diego Simeone’s Atlético, to lay out something of a blueprint for Lille’s stars:
“We used the Atlético game a lot to prepare for this match.”
