Former France international Lilian Thuram has called out football legend Pelé for not doing more to fight racism.

The ex-Juventus and Monaco defender, who is currently an anti-racism campaigner and author, has insisted that the World Cup legend should have used his platform to denounce prejudice.

“Pelé has never been heard on the issue of racism in Brazil,” Thuram told Sporttv. “And he’s someone who could have made things happen.

“I do not know him, but I think we have to go beyond selfishness.

“Maybe Pelé does not have that greatness in his soul, because with the image he has in the world I think he should have done more.”
