The LFP have announced that the transfer window will open earlier this year, due to the inaugural edition of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The transfer window in France often opens in mid-June, around a month after the conclusion of the Ligue 1 season. However, this year, the window will open on 1st June, as announced by the LFP on Thursday. The LFP have cited the upcoming Club World Cup, which begins on 14th June and ends on 13th July, as the reason.

The window opening earlier allows clubs participating in the competition, in France’s case, that is only Paris Saint-Germain, to recruit ahead of the tournament. Whilst the move may have been introduced to help PSG, France’s only competitor in the Club World Cup, all French sides will be able to recruit.

The date of the closure of the transfer window has not yet been set. There are currently ongoing discussions with other national European leagues so that Ligue 1 can align with those dates.
