GK, Alban Lafont (Nantes) – The Frenchman helped Nantes to a devastating 4-1 win in the Western Derby over Angers with two outrageous saves. The best coming from a Jimmy Cabot volley, Lafont getting a sharp hand to the shot despite his momentum carrying him in the opposite direction.

RB, Przemysław Frankowski (Lens) – The Polish wide man was an unheralded summer arrival from MLS but he’s so far been key to adding much needed balance to Lens’ 3-5-2 setup with one of last season’s standout performers, Jonathan Clauss, on the opposite flank. It was Frankowski who won the Northern Derby cutting in from the left to bamboozle a waning José Fonte before slotting home.

CB, Gerzino Nyamsi (Strasbourg) – Although never really impressing at Rennes, like many a Ligue 1 centre-back, he seems to prefer playing in a back three. Nyamsi defended strongly and effectively in Strasbourg’s 3-0 win over Metz, while enjoying carrying the ball out of defence. It didn’t always come off but one such dribble and through ball provided a superb assist for Diallo’s first.

CB, Jonathan Gradit (Lens) – One of Ligue 1’s more underrated players and Gradit has increasingly looked at home in Ligue 1 over the last two seasons and this was another assured display as Lens beat local rivals Lille.

LB, Luan Peres (Marseille) – That fact that the OM defender makes this team for the second week in a row is quite astonishing having looked so dangerously out of his depth in the early weeks of the season. Peres, however, is improving with every game and this was another composed performance. It was his searching long ball into the channel that assisted OM second for Harit in a 2-0 win over Rennes.

DM, Pedro Chirivella (Nantes) – The former Liverpool man had looked a little out of his depth at times last season but he’s only grown in stature since the arrival of Antoine Kombouaré and his neat use of the ball and coverage of ground in midfield helped build a platform for Nantes’ stunning 4-1 win at Angers.

CM, Matteo Guendouzi (Marseille) – The Arsenal loanee was used a little deeper in midfield than previously this season and posted an unusually measured and assured display but nevertheless complimented by his typically physical style as he won and used possession productively throughout. A real driving force for OM, the 22-year-old is becoming their most important midfielder.

AM, Neymar (PSG) – The Brazilian combined well with Messi during the first half of PSG’s narrow win over Lyon but took over in the second as PSG’s creative leader, repeatedly beating his man, committing defenders and picking some intelligent passes before winning and scoring a very questionable penalty. It was his second half performance that turned the tide.

FW, Randal Kolo-Muani (Nantes) – Kolo-Muani’s intelligent forward play, powerful progression of play and graceful creative influence have been the driving force behind Nantes’ low-key but excellent start. This was perhaps his best display yet, adding an assist, winning a penalty and nonchalantly sitting three Angers defenders down before scoring the third in a superb 4-1 win at Angers.

FW, Habib Diallo (Strasbourg) – Clearly desperate to take his chance with Kevin Gameiro rested, Diallo netted a superb first half brace to beat Metz, with Dylan Bronn his victim on both occasions. Firstly by fooling the Tunisian with a drop of the shoulder to create space to fire under Oukidja, then by outmuscling him to poke home his second.

FW, Andy Delort (Nice) – The new signing proved central to Nice’s fight back in the draw with Monaco having replaced Kasper Dolberg after 15 minutes due to injury. As part of some incisive interplay with Gouiri throughout, Delort evaded Badiashile to head home a leveller just after half time before his low cross set up Boudaoui for 2-1.
