Olympique de Marseille closed the gap to Paris Saint-Germain to just five points with five games remaining after Les Parisiens succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at home to FC Lorient.
Lyon overturned a one-goal deficit to keep their hopes of European football alive. They are just six points away from fifth-placed Lille, whilst Strasbourg are above the drop zone only on goal difference.
An Angel Gomes double and a Rémy Cabella strike allowed Les Dogues to wrap up the win in the first-half against Ajaccio, whose relegation to Ligue 2 is all-but confirmed.
Montpellier shocked Les Monégasques at the Stade Louis II as the Principality club slip further behind in the chase for the podium. Englishman Stephy Mavididi scored in back-to-back games in what was a rout.
Clermont are on a five-game winning run. Both teams are comfortably mid-table and have just pride to play for in these final games of the season. Both would almost certainly have gratefully accepted such a scenario at the beginning of the season.
Angers’ relegation to Ligue 2 is finally confirmed. Rennes, meanwhile, keep up with Lille in the race for the European places. They remain three points behind Les Dogues.
Troyes are looking increasingly likely to drop down to Ligue 2. Hicham Boudaoui scored the only goal of the game in the second minute.
Les Parisiens were played off their own Parc by Les Merlus. Hicham Hakimi’s early red card, which was preceded by an Enzo Le Fée opener set the tone for an afternoon to forget for PSG, who retain a five-point lead at the top.
Marseille relied on a quickfire double to overturn a deficit at home to relegation-threatened Auxerre. Cenzig Ünder and Alexis Sánchez scored the goals for Les Phocéens as they closed the gap to PSG to five points.
Toulouse couldn’t back up their Coupe de France success with a win in the league. Instead, it was Le Sang et Or who took the three points to keep contact with second-placed Marseille. A Champions League qualification is looking increasingly likely.
After their humiliating Coupe de France final defeat at the Stade de France, Les Canaris slipped into the relegation zone with a defeat against a direct rival for the drop, Brest.
