Ligue 1 Results, Round 30
Olympique de Marseille stumbled in their chase to reel in Paris Saint-Germain, who beat OGC Nice on Saturday night. RC Lens, however, remain within six points of the league leaders, with the pair facing each other next weekend.
Lens kept up the pressure on PSG with a narrow win over relegation-struggling Strasbourg on Friday. Kevin Gameiro halved the deficit late on to give Franck Haise’s side a scare, but the home side held on. Les Alsaciens are now in the relegation zone.
Angers finally ended their winless streak with a surprise win over European-chasing side Lille. Halid Sabanovic’s late winner brought the 202-day streak to an end, although it is almost certainly too little too late for Angers to avoid the drop.
Goals from Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos ensured Christophe Galtier’s victorious return to the Allianz Riviera, in a game that was fraught with off-pitch controversy. An offensive banner, directed towards the former Nice manager, drew a reaction from Galtier post-match, which incensed Les Aiglons’ fans, as well as some of his former players.
In front of a sparse crowd at the Groupama Stadium, Lyon came from behind to salvage a victory. Corentin Tolisso, Alexandre Lacazette and Bradley Barcola all scored in the second half to give Les Gones the three points.
Toulouse backed up their qualification for the Coupe de France final with a win against in-form Montpellier. Farès Chaïbi doubled Toulouse’s lead late on before Elye Wahi netted a consolation for Michel Der Zakarian’s side.
Auxerre netted three first-half goals to secure a vital win against fellow strugglers Ajaccio. The victory sees them jump out of the relegation zone and into 15th. Ajaccio are now seven points from safety.
Troyes are another team in big trouble. Like Ajaccio, they are now seven points from safety following defeat against Clermont Foot, who are comfortably mid-table, and have already pierced the 40-point mark.
Folarin Balogun netted a late penalty to salvage a draw against Brest. It’s the England U21 international’s 18 Ligue 1 goal this season, only Kylian Mbappé and Jonathan David (both 19) have scored more.
Monaco let another lead slip, this time against Nantes. Monaco were two up at half-time, but second-half goals from Mustafa Mohamed and Ludovic Blas salvaged a point for the relegation-threatened Canaris.
Igor Tudor was left bemoaning Lorient’s defensive tactics as his side were held to a draw on Sunday night. Lens are now clear of Les Phocéens in second place.
