Game of the week: RC Lens v OGC Nice, Wednesday 20:00 (UK)

Raphaël: There’s a record on the line tonight, as Angers could make it a thirteenth straight defeat with they host Ajaccio to open the midweek round of fixtures – the Anjou outfit now in complete disarray after being gutted their sole hopes of survival in Moroccan internationals Sofiane Boufal and Azzedine Ounahi. Nantes’ upturn in form ahead of their European tie against Juventus will be put to the test as Marseille come to town. There’s a clash between Ligue 1’s biggest managerial prospects as a still-unbeaten Will Still of Reims takes on Lorient’s Régis Le Bris, in what promises to be an intriguing and tactical affair. A resurgent Nice could be the team to put an end to Lens’ 10-game winning streak at home this season, while Montpellier should prove a more straightforward opponent for the league leaders than in their previous trips to Lens and Rennes.

Luke: Two clubs in deep relegation trouble face off in Angers and Ajaccio. The former could record a record thirteenth successive Ligue 1 defeat, whilst the latter have been in freefall for weeks and are shipping goals. Both look destined for the drop, but a victory for either tonight would certainly aid the cause. Reims versus Lorient promises to be an enthralling battle. Will Still’s side remain unbeaten during his tenure, whilst Lorient continue to fight for the European places, despite some big name departures.

Lens have begun to show signs of slowing down in recent weeks, and they come up against a Nice side who are confident off the back of an important win against Lille, and who are bolstered by some important additions to their squad. Monaco should make light work of Auxerre, and PSG should have enough to beat Montpellier, despite being in somewhat of a post-World Cup slump.
