A Ligue 1 match was abandoned on Sunday after a goalkeeper had to be stretchered off after being struck with a firework,

The clash between Clermont Foot and Montpellier was suspended in the 90th minute after Clermont’s Mory Diaw was hit with the object thrown from a section of supporters, reported to be from the stand housing the Montpellier fans.

The firework appeared to explode at the foot of Diaw who then fell to the ground and had to be guided off the pitch on a stretcher.

A tweet from the official Ligue 1 account then confirmed the match will be suspended until further notice with Clermont’s Neto Borges also sent off for raising the middle finger to the Montpellier fans.

Montpellier have now confirmed that the game has been officially abandoned with the game stopped as the hosts led 4-2.
