While Chivas may be the only Liga MX side with a Mexican-only policy, it seems the country’s other top sides are starting to follow the Flock’s example.
Statistics from Hora de Futbol show that Chivas have given 100% of minutes to homegrown players, or players who are of Mexican lineage.
Before this weekend’s action, Pumas had 69% of their minutes completed by natives, while América and Cruz Azul were on 66%.
According to the data-driven website, 10 of the 18 top-flight clubs had given over 50% of their playing time to Mexican players.
The team most reliant on foreign signings was Atlético San Luis, with home players accounting for just 35% of the minutes for Los Atléticos.
But with the other top-four sides following the example of Chivas, it suggests that the focus is clearly on developing local talent.
