Chivas and Pachuca are set to face off in the two-legged 2022 Liga MX Femenil Clausura Final. It will be the second meeting in a Grand Final for both sides after Chivas topped Pachuca in the inaugural 2017 Apertura Final.

Pachuca midfielder Karla Nieto participated in that first final. She now views the upcoming fixtures as a chance to redeem the club she’s called home her entire professional career.

“It’s nice to remember, for those of us who relive that historic final five years from now,” Nieto told TUDN. “Of course, that ‘thorn’ is coming that we have a new opportunity to defend the title.”

Previous encounter

The last time these two sides met was on the first matchday of the closing tournament in January. Chivas got ahead after league top goalscorer Alicia Cervantes tucked away a well-timed cross from Rubí Soto within the first seven minutes.

Soon after, Pachuca’s Charlyn Corral tied things up. But Chivas immediately responded with a second goal, courtesy of a tripped-up Carolina Jaramillo.

In the 39th minute, Michelle González added another for Chivas. The goal came from a corner kick that the Pachuca defense handled clumsily.

After half time, Cervantes doubled her tally and secured a 4–1 Chivas victory.

What to expect

Chivas are the clear favorites heading into the final. But Pachuca aren’t undeserving of their place. After all, they did defeat top-seeded Monterrey in the semifinals.

Pachuca’s main concern will be managing their defense. While both teams had near-equal goal contributions during the regular season, Pachuca allowed 16 more goals than Chivas.

Pair Pachuca’s defensive woes with the fact that they’ll be facing the same side that thrashed them 1–4 in January, and you might have the recipe for a Chivas victory.

How to watch

Both games will air on Fox Sports in Mexico. But international viewers might have more difficulty finding a legit channel.

If you can’t find a channel televising each game in your territory, a simple YouTube search at kick off might do the trick.
