Liga F round up: Barcelona net eight, Atlético Madrid move into third | OneFootball

Barcelona returned to Liga F action with a resounding 8-0 victory in Wednesday’s home clash with Madrid CFF. Meanwhile, at the weekend, Atlético Madrid claimed a crucial 2-0 win over Real Sociedad to climb into the top three.

Here, we will round up all the action that took place on match-day 25 of the Liga F season.

Villarreal 1-2 Granada

Granada claimed a second straight victory to move four points clear of danger. An unmarked Carlota Suárez headed Granada into the lead just before the half hour mark.  Laura Pérez doubled the advantage in the 48th minute when her attempted cross looped in at the far post. Kayla McKenna scored in a third consecutive game to give Villarreal a foothold ahead of the final 20 minutes. However, the visitors ultimately saw out the remainder of the contest to leave Villarreal languishing in 14th place and just one point above the drop zone.

Costa Adeje Tenerife 1-0 Valencia

Tenerife required just one goal to get the better of Valencia in Saturday’s home fixture. After playing out a goalless first half, Tenerife took the lead just after the hour mark. Pisco latched onto Yerliane Moreno’s through ball, before teeing up Koko for a simple close-range finish. The win ensured Tenerife finished the weekend in eighth place, while Valencia are five points behind in 10th position.

Real Betis 3-1 Sporting Club Huelva

Real Betis moved out of the bottom two with a crucial win over basement side Huelva. Rhiannon Roberts got away from her marker to head home from Gema Soliveres’ 51st minute corner. Tiffany Cameron then drilled her half-volley into the bottom corner to give Betis a useful two-goal cushion.

Bárbara López pulled a goal back in the 68th minute, before Cameron quickly found the net to grab her second and Betis’ third goal of the afternoon. Huelva are now on the brink of having their relegation confirmed, with 15 points separating them from Villarreal ahead of their final five matches.

Sevilla 1-3 Levante

Levante ended a three-game winless run with a successful away performance against Sevilla. Silvia Lloris headed a free-kick back across goal for María Méndez to bundle home her second league goal of the season. Nataša Andonova then guided the ball in from Érika González’s cut-back to double the visitors’ advantage in first-half stoppage. Within five minutes of the restart, Andonova headed in her second and Levante’s third to effectively put the game out of Sevilla’s reach.

Although Diana Gomes pulled a goal back, Sevilla were unable to spark a fightback at the Estadio Jesús Navas. The victory leaves Levante in fourth spot and one point adrift of the top three.

Eibar 0-2 Athletic Club

Athletic have now won eight of their last nine league games after they beat fellow Basque side Eibar in Sunday’s away fixture. After playing out a goalless first half, Ane Azkona headed Athletic into the lead in the 53rd minute. Eibar’s fading hopes of salvaging a point were quashed by Jone Amezaga in stoppage time. The substitute embarked on a driving run, before chopping onto her right foot and firing into the top corner. Athletic remain in the top-three race with four points separating them from Atlético Madrid in fourth position.

Real Sociedad 0-2 Atlético Madrid

Ludmila required just 14 minutes to break the deadlock in Sunday’s meeting with Real Sociedad. The Brazilian showed great control to cushion Vilde Bøe Risa’s long ball, before rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net. After keeping Real Sociedad at bay, the visitors made sure of the three points in the 90th minute. Rasheedat Ajibade cut inside onto her right foot, before picking out the bottom corner with a driven shot. The win moved Atleti into the Champions League qualification places in the Liga F table, while Real Sociedad are in ninth spot.

Real Madrid 2-1 Levante Las Planas

Real Madrid fought back from a goal down to beat Levante Las Planas at the weekend. The visitors took a surprise lead in the ninth minute when Irina Uribe guided the ball home from Allegra Poljak’s cut-back. Levante Las Planas kept Real Madrid at bay until Hayley Raso pulled her side level in the 85th minute. Claudia Zornoza then completed the dramatic turnaround in the eighth minute of stoppage time. The 33-year-old produced an unstoppable free-kick to snatch all three points and leave the away side languishing in the relegation zone.

Barcelona 8-0 Madrid CFF

Buoyed from securing their Champions League win over Chelsea, a confident Barcelona side scored five first-half goals on their way to sweeping aside top-three hopefuls Madrid CFF. Alexia Putellas slotted Barcelona into a ninth-minute lead, before Mariona Caldentey added a second for the hosts. Clàudia Pina, Vicky López and Esmee Brugts all added their names to the scoresheet to wrap up a dominant first-half performance.

Marta Torrejón netted a brace of headed goals, before Ona Batlle poked home her second league goal of the season to round off the scoring. Barcelona are now 12 points clear of Real Madrid with just five Liga F games left to play. As for Madrid CFF, they are in fifth place and two points adrift of the top three.
