Athletic Club boosted their top-three hopes with a successful outing against relegation-threatened Valencia on Matchday 16 of the Liga F season. There were only six league matches over the weekend due to the Supercopa de España Femenina, which Barcelona won thanks to wins over Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid.

In this round-up, we will cover the Liga F action that took place over the January 25–26 weekend as Athletic Club continued their bid for Champions League football.

Costa Adeje Tenerife 2-0 Madrid CFF

Tenerife scored a goal on either side of halftime to take maximum points from Saturday’s home clash. María Pérez pounced on Gift Monday’s flicked header to drill a left-foot shot past Belén Gracia.

After being teed up by Monday, Pérez ultimately returned the favour for Tenerife to double the advantage in the 56th minute. The Nigeria international collected Pérez’s reverse pass before she prodded the ball home to score in a fourth consecutive match.

The win has left Tenerife in sixth place and six points adrift of the top three.

Levante 1-1 Levante Badalona

Relegation-threatened Levante had to settle for a point in their home meeting with Levante Badalona. Ivonne Chacon opened the scoring in the 47th minute, showcasing nimble footwork to create the space to thump the ball past Laura Coronado at the near post.

Unfortunately for the hosts, their slender lead was quickly cancelled out by Badalona’s Ghizlane Chebbak. The 33-year-old’s right-foot shot deflected off Anna Torrodà and out of the reach of Andrea Tarazona. Chacon thought she had restored the home side’s advantage, only to see the effort ruled out for a tight offside call.

As a result, the hosts had to be content with a draw, extending their winless run to eight league matches.

Valencia 0-1 Athletic Club

Athletic Club continued their Champions League qualification bid with a narrow victory over Valencia at the weekend. Maitane Vilariño’s 60th-minute effort proved enough to separate the two sides. The 22-year-old applied the deftest of touches to help Clara Pinedo’s free-kick on its way into the Valencia goal.

Athletic stood firm at the opposite end of the pitch to clinch a third consecutive away victory in Liga F. The fifth-placed side are now level on points with Atlético Madrid in third position, while Valencia remain bottom of the table with six points to their name.

Eibar 0-0 Granada

Eibar and Granada played out a goalless draw in Saturday’s clash at Ipurua. The two sides could only muster three shots on target between them in what proved to be a cagey contest. Annelie Leitner went close to winning the game in the second period when she saw her left-foot shot hit the upright. Eibar ultimately had to be content with the draw, moving them seven points adrift of danger, while Granada are in seventh place with 23 points to their name.

Real Betis 0-2 Deportivo La Coruña

Deportivo La Coruña boosted their survival hopes with a successful away outing against relegation rivals Real Betis. Paula Gutiérrez opened the scoring in the 47th minute, nodding the ball in from Samara Ortiz’s cross to the back post.

Ainhoa Marín then slotted past Noelia Gil to double the advantage with her first Liga F goal of the season. Marín’s effort proved to be the final goal of the game, moving Depor five points clear of the bottom two and level on points with Betis.

Espanyol 0-0 Sevilla

The second goalless draw of the weekend took place in Sunday’s clash between Espanyol and Sevilla. The hosts thought they had found the breakthrough in the second period. However, Mar Torras’ header was ruled out after Daniela Caracas had blocked the goalkeeper’s line of vision. The offside goal denied Espanyol their first win of 2025, leaving them in 11th position. As for Sevilla, they are two points better off in eighth place.
