Liga F: Levante Las Planas rebrand to Levante Badalona

Liga F requirements have forced Levante Las Planas to carry out some changes. The club have rebranded under a new name and crest following their move to a new city — introducing FC Levante Badalona.

Why have Levante Badalona rebranded?

The ground where Levante used to play, Municipal Las Planas in Sant Joan Despí, had some of the worst facilities in the league. The stadium has stands just two metres away from the playing field, small changing rooms, and no space to accommodate media or a press zone. It is no secret that most of the players and clubs complained about the facilities when playing there.

Levante secured their Liga F survival last season in their final game of the campaign. The match against Real Sociedad was the start of a new chapter and the chance to let the club find solutions to internal problems.

A new home will help fulfil these needs and improve Levante’s reputation. Municipal de Badalona stadium will host the team for the upcoming season. The team will finally benefit from proper facilities to treat the players as professionals, and the space to host some of the best teams in Europe.

Levante’s new home

Levante’s new facilities include stands for 4,100 people, which is double than of the other stadium. Next winter the grass will also become natural, in line to follow Liga F rules.

There are obstacles, though. The new stadium will be shared with two more clubs. CF Badalona SAD and FF Badalona were there before, and their well-known men’s teams will need to train and play there as well. CE Seagull, a female-only club, whose principal team is in third RFEF, used to play at Municipal de Badalona, but there is no news about them as things stand. Levante’s youth teams will not move to the new ground but will stay in Sant Joan Despí.

Branding changes

The club have kept the same shield, changing just the colours — blue instead of red and Badalona’s flag on the left side — to align their identity and refer to the new city.

Behind this change, there is a large investment. According to Marc Gironés reporting for Diari ARA, Michelle Kang was about to buy the club. The latest information says negotiations are ongoing between the representatives and Mercury13 to buy their second club. The company currently owns FC Como Women.

Furthermore, Levante Badalona need to solve some defaults to their players, workers, and agents as well. A new owner would repair the damage both players and staff members have had to go through during recent seasons.

The new project is ambitious — Levante Badalona have reportedly set their sights on challenging for a Champions League spot. New signings reaffirm that. Estefanía Banini, from Atlético de Madrid, is the star signing. Meanwhile, María Llompart, Berta Pujadas, Ari Sánchez are all strong players who return home having found a good project.
