Bristol City have a huge chance to get their season back on track in the coming weeks

After three Championship games without a win, Bristol City got their season back on track with a 2-1 win over Oxford United on Saturday afternoon at Ashton Gate.

It was a hugely important three points for Liam Manning, not least because he was up against his former side, but it helped stop the rot after a disappointing couple of weeks.

While the win over Oxford United was a good way to put an end to their run of games without tasting victory, the Robins really need to build on that now, and they have the perfect chance in the next couple of weeks.

The best way to describe Manning's reign as Bristol City boss would be solid without being spectacular, and frustrated sections of the Ashton Gate faithful could be won over in the coming weeks should they pick up maximum points from some big games.

The Robins are currently 13th in the Championship, but have a golden opportunity to move up the table in the coming weeks, and Manning could well win over sections of disgruntled support.

Bristol City face Swansea City on Sunday, not a derby as such, but certainly a fixture that can be fiery at times, and a game that has more on it than a run-of-the-mill league fixture, and they also host Cardiff City at Ashton Gate the following week in the Sevenside Derby.

Between that, Sheffield Wednesday visit BS3, and the Robins should be looking for at least two wins from these three games, especially as they're at home to Wednesday and Cardiff, two sides struggling at the wrong end of the table.

You feel as if these three games not only provide Bristol City with the chance to pick up some points, but good performances and good wins would certainly increase Manning's popularity, which may have diminished in recent weeks after consecutive 3-0 losses on the road against Derby County and Blackburn Rovers.

Manning is clearly a good manager and impressed with both MK Dons and Oxford United, which subsequently landed him the job at Ashton Gate, but you feel as if we're yet to really see his Bristol City side click for a sustained period of time, and he's come under scrutiny from some supporters.

However, three points from Saturday's game with Oxford United could well provide the platform to build on going forward, and it's really important that their comeback win isn't a false dawn.

Home games against two of the worst sides in the division on paper should provide a perfect opportunity to pick up points, and it's so important that the Robins do.

Poor results in the next fortnight could spell danger for Liam Manning

Manning's job has never really looked in doubt at Ashton Gate, but had they lost to Oxford United after two heavy away losses, there could well have been pressure building.

The win against the U's has stopped the rot, but it could just be a temporary respite if they suffer poor results in the coming weeks.

You feel that losses against the sides from the other side of the Bristol Channel, coupled with a poor result against Wednesday would mean there is genuine pressure on Manning, and potentially a threat to his job at Ashton Gate given reports about his future have already surfaced.

The Robins lost both games against Cardiff City last season and losing the Sevenside Derby yet again, against a really poor Bluebirds side who are currently managerless, certainly wouldn't go down well amongst the Ashton Gate faithful.

The coming fortnight is a critical period for Manning, and it could be a season-defining run of fixtures. Good results could allow them to push on in the future and look up the table, while bad results could see supporters turn against him and make it hard for him to recover.

It's a huge fortnight, and the Robins should be looking to start with a bang when they travel to South Wales to face Swansea on Sunday afternoon.
