LFP to decide on sanctions after Saint-Étienne crowd trouble | OneFootball

L’Équipe report today that the LFP’s disciplinary commission will meet tomorrow to decide on sanctions regarding the crowd trouble before the Saint-Étienne-Angers fixture on Friday night, which saw the game’s kick-off delayed by an hour.

The club had already been hit with a two-match suspended closure of one of its stands for the use of 70 flares in the derby against Lyon, a sentence which is now expected to come into play. Pyrotechnics were again used on Friday night as fans expressed their discontent towards manager Claude Puel after a poor start to the season. The flares were thrown onto the pitch, causing a one-hour delay after the nets in the goals were punctured.

The Ligue 1 authorities had originally been against the match resuming, but the local prefect agreed to have the game go ahead. The footballing authorities are expected to hand out a heavy sanction for the sake of making an example, not least because another two flares were set off after the second Angers goal.
