As Liverpool’s summer business heats up, journalist Lewis Steele has confirmed that Jeremie Frimpong’s move is essentially complete. Speaking to Dave Davis on Anfield Index’s Media Matters, Steele revealed: “He started his medical yesterday, he’s finishing it today. I don’t know when it’ll be announced… but it’s a done deal, so there’s no need to worry about that.”
Frimpong’s arrival is expected to signal a tactical shift under incoming head coach Arne Slot. With full-backs playing a pivotal role in Slot’s system, the Dutch international looks set to be a key figure in the next phase of Liverpool’s development.
Steele added clarity around the timing of the announcement, stating: “Probably not on a game day, but you never know.” This leaves the door open for the club to formally unveil the signing later in the week once match obligations are out of the way.
Frimpong isn’t the only full-back being lined up. Steele also confirmed Milos Kerkez is high on Liverpool’s radar. “Liverpool are planning to step things up with Kerkez in the next week or so… but in journalism speak, ‘week or so’ normally means two days,” he said.
The emphasis on advanced full-backs reflects the influence of Slot’s tactical preferences. “Slot really likes that… and I think that’s how he wants to play next season,” Steele said, citing the example of PSG’s attacking full-backs. He highlighted how Liverpool’s own full-backs were already adapting: “There’s no coincidence that Robbo got his first assist of the season… Bradley could have had an assist or two.”
Frimpong’s rise is also attracting off-the-pitch attention. “New Balance really believe Frimpong’s going to be a breakout star of football,” Steele said, pointing to the commercial weight behind the player. He also referenced an earlier feature: “I did a piece on that in December or January… talking to someone close to Frimpong.”
The momentum behind this transfer isn’t new but has accelerated decisively in recent days. “I didn’t think it’d be wrapped up quite as easily and quickly as it has been,” Steele admitted. Liverpool’s new sporting director Richard Hughes appears to have acted swiftly and efficiently.
With the Frimpong announcement imminent, it’s clear that Liverpool’s summer rebuild is well underway. Slot hinted at changes during his press conference, captured by Steele: “We need a couple more extra weapons… different ways of winning football matches.”
Steele also reinforced that there’s a broader plan in motion: “Liverpool are definitely gearing up for a busy summer.” That statement encapsulates the mood among Liverpool fans as the club accelerates its activity in the transfer window.
This summer’s focus is sharp, deliberate and likely far from over. As Steele put it: “They can’t just sit on their hands and expect to walk towards a title again.”
