Manchester City duo Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly visited the Etihad Stadium expansion site for an exclusive tour of the ongoing £300m development taking shape in the heart of East Manchester.
The Club’s ambitious plans will aim to deliver one of the best matchday experiences in world sport and a world-class, year-round entertainment destination for fans and global visitors alike. The visit gave the young City superstars a preview of the transformation to come on the Etihad Campus, with the stadium capacity set to increase to more than 60,000 and the introduction of a new 3,000-capacity covered fan zone, a 400-bed hotel and a new club shop and museum experience.
Academy graduates Lewis and O’Reilly were in awe of the project as they walked through the site and shared their excitement about playing in front of the newly expanded North Stand in the future. Upon completion, the new-look North Stand will sit opposite Co-op Live, the UK’s only music-first venue and a joint venture between City Football Group and Oak View Group. Reflecting on the tour, Lewis was blown away by the development plans, commenting: “From a few years back to now, it’s developed so much. The Club is always looking to get bigger and better.”
After seeing how the project will transform the matchday experience, Lewis added: “Just from being here today, you can see how much it’s going to grow and how exciting it is for the fans, and how exciting it will be for them in the future.” O’Reilly echoed his teammate’s sentiments, adding: “It’ll be a nice day out for the fans, get the full experience, I think the idea of it all is great.”
