Robert Lewandowski’s former agent, Maik Barthel has hit back at the striker’s wish to join Barcelona in the summer. He said that it is very strange for a player whose goal was to play for Real Madrid once has now decided to make Barcelona his priority.

Speaking in an interview with Sport Bild in March, Barthel, who managed Lewandowski for a whopping 10 years, had said that Real Madrid was the most preferred destination for the player.

“My experience with him and those around him shows that a move to another top international club, preferably Real Madrid, was always the goal,” Barthel was quoted as saying.

Ever since the January transfer window, however, things have changed within the player’s camp. With Bayern refusing to fulfil his contractual demands, the star forward has asked the team to listen to the offers for a move in the upcoming transfer window.

As such, Bayern are still reluctant, but thanks to Barcelona’s interest, the player is now pushing for an exit. Things have gotten so far ahead that his current agent, Pini Zahavi, has described the situation as, “For Robert Lewandowski, FC Bayern is history.”

Now that the move is being considered closer for the Blaugranas, his former representative, Barthel, has hit back at the player, more or less pointing out the hypocrisy.

“Your whole life you want to go to Real Madrid only to maybe end up in Barcelona later? Ok,” wrote Barthel on Twitter.

As of today, Lewandowski’s intention is to leave Bayern in the summer since he feels betrayed by the German champions. And speaking about his desire, Zahavi added that the move is certainly not motivated by money.

“He has felt disrespected by those in charge (at Bayern) for months, that’s the truth. FC Bayern has not lost Lewandowski the player, but Robert the person, said Zahavi.
