The Robert Lewandowski-Bayern Munich standoff has been hogging the headlines for over a month now and an end does not seem to be in sight any time soon.

The 33-year-old Poland captain is entering the final year of his contract at the end of this month. And he has made it clear on numerous occasions that he does not intend to sign a new deal and move on from the club this summer.

However, Bayern Munich are standing firm on their stance that Lewandowski is not for sale and will see out his contract.

Barcelona are caught in the middle of this standoff between the striker and the German champions. The Catalan giants are intent on signing the Bayern Munich superstar to lead their project under Xavi Hernandez.

Personal terms between Lewandowski and Barcelona have also been agreed upon already. Barcelona have made two separate bids to Bayern Munich to secure the centre-forward’s services, but they have not responded to either.

Given the situation, as reported by the cover page of SPORT on June 25, Robert Lewandowski is now planning on taking matters into his own hands and put pressure on Bayern Munich to enter negotiations with Barcelona over a transfer.

It has been previously reported that the Bavarian giants would consider selling the 33-year-old if an offer of around €50 million arrives for the Poland captain. Barça’s offers so far have been well under that mark and it will be interesting to see if they up their bid in the coming days.

As for Lewandowski, he has made up his mind, and will now try everything in his power to try and get his desired move to Barcelona. There had been talks about the striker activating Article 17 in the FIFA rulebook which would allow him to seek a termination of contract.

Whether he resorts to those measures or if Bayern change their stance on the matter remains to be seen.
