Lewandowski appointed at Radomiak | OneFootball

Ekstraklasa side Radomiak Radom announced a managerial change on Monday. After almost four years in charge of the club, Dariusz Banasik was relieved of his duties, and was replaced by former Poland international Mariusz Lewandowski.

The Radomiak job is Lewandowski’s third in Polish football, having previously led Zagłębie Lubin and Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza. The 66-time Poland representative was fired from the latter in December, with the club rooted in the relegation zone.

Yet the former Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder did not have to wait long for a return to management, and has signed a two-year deal at the club, with the option to extend for a further season.

Rumours were rife that Friday’s 1-0 defeat to Cracovia was the final straw for club bosses, and Banasik’s tenure was coming to an end. The newly-promoted club had finished the autumn round in an unexpected third position in the table, but following the winter break have won just one from eleven games, and have dropped down to sixth.

Still, with the 48-year-old having led Radomiak to two promotions in his time in southern Masovia, the club have not been keen to throw him on the scrap heap. Instead, the zielono-biało-zielone have offered him another backroom role at the club.

New coach Lewandowski will take charge of the club for the first time on Friday evening, away at Górnik Zabrze.
