Lewandowski apologizes to the Bayern fans following the transfer | OneFootball

Robert Lewandowski’s transfer to Barcelona caused a lot of trouble internally at the club. Lewandowski’s statements and the club’s officials showed that there is no love lost between the two.

Last week, Lewandowski returned to Munich once again to hold talks with the board and properly say goodbye to the teammates and Bayern employees. He also participated in a photo shoot where he posed with all the trophies he won at Bayern.

A week later, Lewandowski has now come up in the media once again, this time to apologize for his behavior to the fans.

In an interview with „Sport1“, the 33-year-old apologized for his public statements and attacks: „I know that hurt a lot of fans. I can understand them and I can only apologize for that now.”

According to the striker, he just wanted to express his feelings and not consciously attack anyone: „It was important and necessary for me at that moment to make it clear that I’m ready for a change. We’re all humans, right? After twelve years in Germany, it was clear to me that I was done.“

For many supporters of the German record champions, Lewandowski has become “persona non grata” with his move to FC Barcelona. According to the Polish international, there are also some fans who have shown understanding for his transfer: „In the past few weeks I’ve met a few fans on the street who have expressed understanding for my situation and wished me all the best.“

FC Bayern have played their first two competitive games of the season against RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt where both matches finished 3-5 and 1-6 respectively. The latest performance against Frankfurt showed how flexible and direct Bayern were in attacking transitions. One could say that Lewandowski’s absence wasn’t felt at all. However, it’s obviously too early to make conclusions.

For Lewandowski, there is a certainty that Bayern will keep doing better even without him and has hopes that his former attacking teammates will benefit a lot from his absence: „I have no doubt they will score their goals without me. I’m sure other players will score more goals now than in previous years.“
