Levi Colwill reveals the real reason he wears John Terry’s number | OneFootball

There is already massive excitement about Levi Colwill as a prospect.

Coming out of the Chelsea youth teams he’s looked like a total star, and if anything he’s looked better than ever since going on loan to the Championship this season, where he’s been superb for Huddersfield.

The hype went to a new level when it was announced that the central defender would wear the number 26 on his loan – John Terry’s number.

But in a long and interesting interview with The Athletic today, Colwill has revealed that that is just a coincidence, not the reference to a Chelsea legend that many had hoped.

“Everyone is saying it’s because of John, but it’s because that’s the date of my birthday,” the 19 year old explained.

“It was my number when I was growing up, even if I was just playing a football game on Playstation.”

Well, that puts that to bed. Still, as long as he continues to play like a young John Terry, he can wear whatever number he likes. Let’s hope that just like JT, Colwill gets a first team chance after a loan to the lower divisions.
