Liverpool have made a strong start to the transfer window as they bid to reinforce their squad under manager Arne Slot.
The Premier League champions want to retain their crown and compete on other fronts next term.
The Reds have sealed a deal for Bayer Leverkusen right-wing-back Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold following his move to Real Madrid.
Liverpool are also close to sealing a record-breaking €150 million swoop for Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz.
It appears the Merseysiders are not done conducting business with Die Werkself.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leverkusen have entered talks with Liverpool for defender Jarell Quansah. They are also speaking to his entourage.
Quansah is reportedly high on their transfer wishlist. They aim to bolster their depleted squad under manager Erik ten Hag.
The defender got his shot in the Liverpool first team under former boss Jurgen Klopp, as Ibrahima Konate struggled with injuries. The German tactician hailed him as a ‘real talent’.
Upon Konate’s return, the Liverpool academy graduate has been a mainstay in the squad behind the Frenchman and Virgil Van Dijk.
However, Quansah might be open to the possibility of moving to Germany if promised first-team football.
Liverpool would be wise to resist Leverkusen and keep Quansah.
They will need his services next season, even though he must smooth the rough edges of his game, especially positional awareness.
The 22-year-old has already demonstrated his ability to thrive at the highest level, learning quickly under the guidance of Virgil van Dijk and Konate.
Slot needs to give him meaningful minutes next season while helping him transition to a future starting role.
With Van Dijk turning 34 next month and Konate’s contract ticking towards its 2026 expiry, Quansah represents succession planning done right.
Selling him now might offer a quick return, but it would be a costly mistake in the long term.
Liverpool have a gem on their hands who could anchor their backline for the next decade if nurtured properly.
