On Sunday, Brighton confirmed that the right-back had put pen to paper on an improved deal which could keep him at the Amex Stadium until the summer of 2025.

Lamptey has been one of the Premier League’s standout performers this season and his 11 appearances in the competition have yielded one goal and three assists.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City and still interested in signing the former Chelsea defender despite his new contract.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the England Under-21 international’s future, Whelan said: “I think he is destined for a top-six club.

“I have loved Lamptey since he was come onto the scene. He is very exciting, loads of energy, gets forward, gets in good areas, create chances, box-to-box and has a goal in him. He is such an exciting you player.

“When you look at your Man City and Evertons would have right-backs coming to the back end of their careers, Lamptey would give them another option – and let’s not rule out Spurs.

“It is bizarre why Chelsea let him go. He is a very exciting player and even in the small window that we have seen of him, you can tell a lot of big clubs will be looking at him. They will want him because he brings so much.

“He gets into better positions than Wan Bissaka and he gives you more attacking presence.”
